The Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine Receives Twelve IRNE Award Nominations

OGUNQUIT, MAINE - The Ogunquit Playhouse received twelve Independent Reviewers of New England Award (IRNE) nominations in the large theatre category. Eleven of those nominations are for its 2018 production of An American in Paris and include Best Musical and Best Ensemble. Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor Hal Linden has been nominated as Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his work in the 2018 U.S. premiere of Grumpy Old Men the Musical. The IRNE Awards honor the best of the previous year’s actors, directors, choreographers, designers and companies across the full spectrum of large, mid-size and fringe theater companies in Boston and New England.

“We are honored to be recognized alongside all of the nominees selected by the IRNE Awards nominating committee this year. We are extremely proud of our production of An American in Paris and the exceptional creative team and wonderful cast and crew members, led by Jeffry Denman who brilliantly directed and choreographed the magnificent Gershwin musical for our stage. We were so blessed to have had the great Hal Linden on our stage last summer for the U.S. premiere of Grumpy Old Men the Musical. I am thrilled to extend heart-felt congratulations to all our nominees for this great honor,” stated Bradford Kenney, Executive Artistic Director at the Ogunquit Playhouse.

The Ogunquit Playhouse production of An American in Paris’s eleven IRNE nominations are for Best Musical, Best Ensemble, Best Direction and Best Choreography (Jeffry Denman), Best Music Direction (David Lamoureux), Best Set Design (David L. Arsenault), Best Lighting (Richard Latta), Best Actor in a Musical (Clyde Alves), Best Actress in a Musical (Julie Eicher), Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Jeremy Greenbaum), and Best Supporting Actress in a Musical (Joanna Glushak). For the U.S. premiere of Grumpy Old Men the Musical, Hal Linden has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.

The Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Awards were founded by Beverly Creasey of the Journal Newspapers and Larry Stark of Theater Mirror in 1997. The IRNE Award ceremony is New England’s largest theater arts recognition program, recognizing the work of playwrights, designers, actors, choreographers and directors among large, mid-size and fringe theater companies throughout the previous year. The IRNE Awards recognize the extraordinary wealth of talent in the Boston and New England theatre community. The IRNE Award ceremony will take place on Monday, April 8, at 7:30 pm (doors at 7 p.m.), at the Ballroom of The Inn at Brookline in Brookline, MA, just outside Kenmore Square. All are invited, the event is free and open to the public.

The legendary Ogunquit Playhouse 2019 lineup includes the multi-Tony Award-winning, international sensation Jersey Boys; the quintessential tap dancing extravaganza 42nd Street; the iconic and powerful jazz musical Cabaret; and Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. Closing out the season is a Tony Award-winning, smash hit musical which will be announced in May.
