Phoenix Theatre is a 33-year-old professional, not-for-profit theatre company with a focus on new, contemporary theatre. We had the hipster mentality before it was cool…though we never embraced skinny jeans. We don’t produce shows that have already been done in Indianapolis—we’re always different, always unique.
Since we have two spaces—the 135-seat Livia & Steve Russell Stage and the 75-seat Frank & Katrina Basile Stage—we’re able to produce year-round, with over 200 performances in our spaces each season. That means there’s almost always something on our stage for you to enjoy!
The material that we choose is personal and intimate, just like our spaces. And we carefully select our season with our stages in mind. Whether you’re in the cabaret-style Basile stage or the more traditional, proscenium style Russell stage, we always present the highest quality in professional, contemporary theatre, providing you more intimacy than a film close-up ever could. Prior to our 32nd season kick-off, we’d produced 361 productions, including touring several productions nationally and internationally.
We’ve produced several award winners, including 38 Tony-Award Winners, 74 Drama Desk Award-Winners, 14 Pulitzer Prize-Winners, and many others.
All of our productions are either Regional or Indiana Premieres, including several straight from Broadway. 91 of our productions have been World Premieres.
